Mr. Carvalho is one of four finalists for 2014 National Superintendent of the Year, the School Superintendents Association.
Applicants from around the country were vetted through a review of leadership, communication, professionalism, and community involvement, according to the association. The other three candidates are schools chiefs in Houston, Tx., Annapolis, Md., and Calhoun, Ga.
The award will be announced in mid-February during the School Superintendents Association’s National Conference on Education. The association donates a $10,000 scholarship to the school system of the winner.
