What is EESAC?

The Educational Excellence School Advisory Council (EESAC) assists schools in developing the School Improvement Plan, assists with decision making related to school improvement and assists with accountability including budgetary decisions.

EESAC was first written into Florida state law in 1991 as part of a plan for educational reform and accountability. The School Board of Dade County, Florida, embraced these state mandated bodies and in 1996, along with the United Teachers of Dade (UTD), adopted in 1996, the School Board authorized these councils to provide all stakeholders with a role in decision making which affects instruction and the delivery of educational programs at the school site. In 1999 the Councils were also charged with assisting principals in the development of School Improvement Plans (SIP) as well as the schools’ budgets.

Responsibility of the EESAC

Each EESAC is the sole body responsible for final decision making at the school relating to implementation of the State system of school improvement and accountability. This authority is delineated in Florida Statute 1001.452, in Miami Dade County School Board Bylaws & Policies and in Miami Dade County Public Schools/United Teachers of Dade Contract, Article XXVI, Section 5.
